Every communicator, inside or outside higher education, would like to launch the next viral sensation. But in truth, nobody can say for sure what’s going to “go viral” online.
Here’s one thing we can say for sure: trying to create viral content is almost certainly going to backfire. You can’t predict the which way the fickle wind of public interest is going to blow. Instead, think about how you can use shareable content to tell your brand story. Talk about your institution in an authentic, interesting way. If it goes viral, that’s an added bonus.
Tell your story, make it compelling, and remember to make it sharable. Let the rest take care of itself.
